  18. <p>     It is an implied truism in the world of music that to be
  19. a blues great you need a friend called pain_a lifetime of broken
  20. hearts and cheap red-wine hangovers, an acquaintance with the
  21. sort of suffering that doesn't result from Nintendo
  22. deprivation. But at 10, Australia's NATHAN CAVALERI is proof to
  23. the contrary. Already a big-name blues guitarist in his
  24. homeland, Nathan is currently claiming fame Stateside.
  25. Commenting on his performance at a San Francisco concert where
  26. he received a standing ovation, a newspaper noted that the
  27. prepubescent player upstaged senior and more celebrated
  28. participants, including the Allman Brothers Band and John Lee
  29. Hooker. "I just close my eyes, and I play," explains Nathan
  30. self-effacingly. "Everything I feel goes into my guitar." Soon
  31. that wellspring of emotion will have to translate into screen
  32. presence. Nathan's snagged a film deal with New Line to play a
  33. kiddie rocker who revives a band's ailing career.
